John Davidson, educated at Lime House School, Carlisle and St Bees School, Cumbria graduated from Newcastle University in 1969 with a degree in Agriculture.

John played his rugby for Newcastle Northern, Northumberland Colts, Alnwick and Jed-Forest. He has been a member of the Jed-Forest Committee since 1977 holding a number of administrative positions, and is currently President of the Club. John is also immediate Past President of the Border League, a member of the steering group for the Borders College of Sporting Excellence and a member of Roxburgh Sports Council.

John formerly owned and ran a farming enterprise in the Borders with a retail meat outlet and international refrigeration transport fleet. He currently operates a butchers business in Jedburgh and is Chairman of Jedburgh Merchants Association.

John was elected to the Scottish Rugby Board in 2010 and appointed as a Director Celtic Rugby Limited in 2011.
