The Schools Rugby Champions initiative recognises the valuable contribution that teachers make to organise, coach and support rugby in schools across Scotland. Scottish Rugby launched the Schools Rugby Champions initiative in 2008.
The aim of the initiative is to recruit, support a suitable member of staff in each state secondary school in Scotland. This staff member acts as a ‘Champion for rugby’ in that school, helping Scottish Rugby to grow the game in communities across the country, and increase the number of children playing rugby.
Each Rugby Champion receives a package of incentives including branded clothing and equipment, and the support of Scottish Rugby’s local and regional development staff.
With a Rugby Champion in place, schools can work towards bronze, silver and gold awards. These awards reflect the level of rugby participation they have achieved in their schools and the valued service they provide to the local rugby community.
