Highland were the winners of the under-18 Caledonia Youth Cup trophy on Sunday (23 March) at Canal Park in Inverness.
The home side put in a convincing 50-0 win over Ellon. In the under-16 competition, Falkirk lifted the Cup in a tight 5-0 win over Ross Sutherland, while Stirling County were victors at under-15 level. They beat Angus, 24-10.
Scottish Rugby’s regional development manager for Highlands and Islands, Brian Bell, said: “It was a fantastic day on Sunday at Canal Park where we had some very competitive games of rugby.
A good mix of teams from all over the region won the various trophies, with some good skills and play being displayed.
“Well done to all the teams that took part and thanks to Highland Rugby Club for their hospitality on the day.”
A further three trophies were played for in all three tiers. First the Shield, Mackie Academy took the plaudits in the under-18 competition, with a 34-22 win over Aberdeen Grammar, while in the under-16 competition Highland beat Ellon, 39-3. Aberdeen Grammar were also successful in the Shield at under-15 level beating Orkney 55-5.
The under-18 Bowl was won by Kirkcaldy, who beat Orkney, 27-10 and Perthshire lifted the under-16 Bowl with a win over Hillfoots/Bannockburn, 48-5. Howe of Fife’s under-15s were triumphant here. They pipped Perthshire, 24-22.
Finally, Aberdeen Wanderers were the under-18 Plate winners beating Moray, 18-0 and Aberdeen Grammar lifted the under-16 trophy with a 37-17 win over Moray. Falkirk’s under-15s beat Mackie Academy 11-5 to lift the under-15 Plate.
