London Scottish have strengthened their coaching team ahead of next season with former England 7s, London Wasps and London Welsh coach Mike Friday stepping up to the post of Director of Rugby as ex-England scrum-half Peter Richards, joins the club as backs coach.
Friday - who has previously guided England 7s to a Commonwealth Games silver medal, as well as a win at Hong Kong 7s in 2006 – has been involved at Richmond Athletic Ground this past season, as backs coach.
He said: “I am really pleased to be remaining at the club as Director of Rugby.
“We have seen substantial change in the off-season with our recruitment drive, as we have sought to evolve a highly ambitious squad which possesses ability, strength of character and a work ethic to compete at the top of the Greene King IPA Championship.
“I am looking forward to complementing the coaching team of head coach James Buckland and backs coach Peter Richards, who are two great coaches with real ambition and talent.
“This is an exciting journey London Scottish is on and I’m pleased to be part of it.”
Richards, 36, who has been capped 13 times by England, played in all of England’s 2007 Rugby World Cup games including the final.
Since retiring from playing in 2010, Richards has gone on to coach the Israeli National 7s team, before taking on the role of skills coach at London Irish whilst heading up the club’s academy.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have joined the set-up at London Scottish.
“There seems to be plenty of pace in the backline and we have some exciting young players who can be developed.
“On the hard grounds, especially at the beginning of the season, it will be interesting to see how they go.”
