London awash with Scottish talent

As the new season beckons, London Scottish have confirmed that 10 of their 36 man squad for this year’s campaign are Scottish qualified.

The side, who play out of Richmond Athletic Ground, underwent an extensive recruitment process this summer, one in which they have newly-signed five Scottish qualified players, four of whom have Scotland age-grade honours.

Ex-Scotland under-18 captain David Cherry, has joined London Scottish from BT Premiership side Currie. He will be joined in the front-row by fellow Scots Ben Prescott, who has also been capped by Scotland at under-18, and Ross Doneghan, who makes the move from Darlington Mowden Park.

Former Scotland under-18, 19 and 20s second-row Josh Thomas Brown and scrum-half Matt Heeks, will re-join London Scottish for their second and third spells respectively.

A number of Scottish qualified players have also extended their contracts at the London club, including Scotland A and 7s cap Jim Thompson. Scrum-half Jamie Stevenson, who like Thompson possesses Scotland A credentials, will also remain at Richmond Athletic Ground for the coming season.

Former Scotland under-20 centres Mike Doneghan - brother of new-signing Ross - and Oli Grove have put pen to paper to commit to London Scottish for a further term.

Likewise, Scotland Club XV capped stand-off, Lee Millar, has re-signed for the Championship club for the season 2014-15.

London Scottish Director of Rugby Mike Friday, said:

“We needed to evolve the squad and that’s what we have done over the past few months.

“There is a good blend between a physical, gritty and resilient front five, complemented by some additions to what is already a quality back-row.

“We have also added some significant firepower to the back division and I’m excited to see how they develop over the course of the new season.”
