REPORT | Scotland U16 teams come out on top in second round of Colwyn Bay Rugby Festival fixtures

Scotland U16 Blue, Red and Green teams all defeated their opponents in the second round of fixtures at Colwyn Bay Rugby Festival.

Scotland U16 Blue and Scotland U16 Red both secured their second win of the festival following impressive performances over RGC (54-7) and Ospreys (48-22) respectively, while Scotland U16 Greens recorded a narrow victory against Lambs (14-10).

The Scotland U16 teams will be looking to finish the festival on a high as they face their final round of fixtures on Sunday (8 April).

MATCH PLAY – Wednesday 4 April

Scotland U16 Green v Lambs

Bailey Albert and James Aiken opened the scoring for Greens in the first half with Robin McLintock coming through with the conversions. Lambs also crossed the white wash but it was Greens that were ahead going into the break.

The Welsh side bounced back in the second period to score another try but the Scots were able to hold for the win.

Scotland U16 Red v Ospreys

Scotland U16 Reds ran in an impressive five tries in the opening half, with Callum Anderson, Daniel Brown, Ewan Henderson, Angus Hoffie and Ryan Daley all crossing the whitewash, and both Roly Brett and Keiran Clark converted a try each before the break.

HT: Scotland U16 Red 29-5 Ospreys

The Reds came out firing in the second-half with tries from Angus Cousin and Ewan Henderson before the Ospreys retaliated, touching down on three occasions.

The Reds were soon back on the scoreboard however with Angus Hoffie’s second try of the match and another conversion for Clark enough to secure the Red’s second win of the tournament.

Scotland U16 Blue v RGC

Scotland U16 Blue were on top form throughout their contest against RGC with the Scots scoring a total eight tries to add to their nine scored against the Dragons in the first round.

Scotland U16 Blues ran in an impressive five tries in the opening half, with Michael Gray (2), Cameron Paterson, Ross McKnight and Robbie Renwick all crossing the whitewash and Luke Armstrong adding the extras on four occasions.

HT: Scotland U16 Blue 33-0 RGC

Cameron Paterson and Ross McKnight scored another try each in the second half with Charles Wall also dotting down the line and Luke Armstrong converted all three.

RGC’s retaliation with a try in the second half was too little too late and the Scots took their second victory of the Colwyn Bay Rugby Festival.
