James Gordon Thompson’s first taste of senior international rugby was as full back in the Scotland team who beat Ireland in the club international at Meggetland in March 2007. The following season he added to his international honours with selection in the Scotland 7s squad for all eight rounds of the IRB’s 2007/08 World Series.
Following that, he won selection for the 2009 Rugby World Cup 7s in Dubai, was a member of the Scottish Thistles team that won the Melrose club’s 125th anniversary sevens and has represented Scotland 7s at a further six World Series events between 2009 and 2012.
Thompson also has eight caps with Scotland A, was a member of the senior Scotland squad that travelled to Argentina in 2010 and is grandson of “Voice of Rugby” commentator Bill McLaren, son of TV racing presenter Derek Thompson, and nephew and cousin of Scotland scrum halves Alan and Rory Lawson.
