Russell Weir

Russell Robert Weir joined Scotland 7s on a full-time contract at the beginning of season 2012-13 after completing his degree at Loughborough University, where he captained the rugby team to promotion into English National Division 2 North in his final year.

He travelled with the Scotland 7s squad to Hong Kong as part of an extended squad in March 2012 where he got involved with various community activities and played in the Scottish Barbarians at the GFI HKFC Hong Kong tens. He then went onto win his first cap on the HSBC Sevens World Series against Kenya at the Nelson Mandela Bay 7s in the 2012-13 series.

The Closeburn Primary, in Dumfries and Galloway, former pupil captained Merchiston Castle who won the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Cup with victory in the final against George Watson’s College at Murrayfield in January 2008 and despite not featuring in the 2010 Under-20 Six Nations, he was selected for the IRB JWC in Argentina and featured as a replacement in every match.
