Laura Steven played in all nine of Scotland Women’s internationals in the first five months of 2009, starting with the game against Sweden followed by the Six Nations Championship and the European Trophy success in Sweden. She returned to the Scotland squad following injury and subsequent progression through the women's regional programme in 2011.
Previously, she played for Scottish Universities in 2003/04 while she was at Dundee University and was Dundee captain in 2006/07.
Appearances in the Scotland Development squad followed in 2004/05 and 2006/07, and after her international debut against Canada in autumn 2007 she played in the Six Nations Championship and the European Championship in 2008, scoring two tries against Spain in the latter competition.
Laura took up playing mini rugby when aged eight then started her own girls team at Kilmarnock RFC when she was 12, coached by her dad.
She also played for Scotland in the Dubai Sevens in 2007 and has played the abbreviated game in national colours every season except 2013.
Her brother, Tom, has played for Scotland at under-18 and under-20 levels and her partner, Jamie Dempsey, former coach with Glasgow Hawks, is now BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy manager for the west of Scotland.
After studying at Dundee University, the Kilmarnock Academy former pupil is now a doctor. Outwith rugby, she was a finalist in the RBS Junior Masters Golf championship at Loch Lomond.
