Bennett draws BT Cup third round

Scotland and Glasgow Warriors centre Mark Bennett made the third round draw of the BT Cup at BT Murrayfield today, which sees the BT Premiership sides enter the competition. The Olympic silver medalist, who is set to make his first appearance of this year’s Autumn Tests when Scotland play Georgia at Rugby Park on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm), was part of the Ayr side who defeated Melrose in the 2011 BT Cup final. BT Premiership side Ayr will travel to Aberdeen Grammar, after the BT National League Division 1 side pushed past Greenock Wanderers in the second round.A Border derby stands-out as a pick of the draw as Gala host Hawick with Nikki Walker’s men on form following their win over Watsonians in the BT Premiership last month.BT Premiership league leaders Melrose will go head-to-head with Currie while the Borders side have already enjoyed a 52-22 victory over the capital club in the league this season.Watsonians will visit Glasgow Hawks in another exciting tie between two clubs who have performed well across all areas, as Boroughmuir host BT National League Division 1 table toppers Edinburgh Academical.Dundee HSFP welcome Stirling County while BT National League Division 2 side Kirkcaldy host BT Premiership defending champions Heriot’s.BT National League Division 1 contenders, Jed-Forest, will contest a team from the league below in the form of Aberdeenshire at home.Bennett said: “The BT Cup is a fantastic competition involving some impressive teams across the leagues, I have very fond memories of playing for Ayr and lifting the Cup.It’s good to see some interesting ties come from the third round draw with Ayr travelling to Aberdeen for their first encounter with BT Cup rugby this season.” BT Cup Third Round Draw (Ties to be played on Saturday 28 January 2017)Gala v Hawick Dundee HSFP v Stirling CountyGlasgow Hawks v Watsonians Aberdeen Grammar Rugby v AyrMelrose v Currie Boroughmuir v Edinburgh Academical Kirkcaldy v Heriot’sJed-Forest v Aberdeenshire
