BT Premiership ROUND-UP | Ayr win battle of the west
Ayr overcame Marr in a high-scoring west coast derby at Millbrae, as the men in pink and black continue their hunt for a place on the top of the table (33-22).
The home side drew first blood, as a neat chip and chase by Scott Lyle saw him add the first points to the scoreboard for Ayr. Lyle was successful with the boot to add the extras.
He was soon joined on the scoresheet by David Armstrong, who dived over the line on the back of a well-taken line-out.
Marr were quick on the response, as Ross Miller and Richard Dalgleish powered their way through the defence to score.
However, Ayr soon found their rhythm again, as Grant Anderson and Frazier Climo both crossed the whitewash before half-time and secured the all-important bonus point for Ayr.
Half-time: Ayr 28 – 10 Marr
After the interval, a neat grubber kick by Ayr resulted in Robbie Nairn gathering the ball and scurrying over the line.
The second-half saw Marr enjoy greater periods of possession and attack, as the plucky men from Fullarton tried to stage a comeback – with both Angus Johnston and Ross Miller brushing past the defence to score.
Despite the late surge Marr were unable to catch up, yet were not left too disheartened as their efforts saw them leave Millbrae with a vital bonus point.
Full-time: Ayr 33 – 22 Marr
The remaining BT Premiership fixtures were postponed due to unplayable pitches.
