BT Women’s Premier League PREVIEW | Watsonians target consecutive wins

Watsonians Women host Cartha Queen’s Park this Sunday (22 October, kick off 2pm) as the home side look to build up a head of steam.

The Edinburgh team have put a focus on their tight game in the lead up to the match and, after an encouraging win in Round 6, they are aiming for back to back victories.

Watsonsians’ Captain, Sarah Nimmo, said: “This weekend’s match should be a great clash. In recent years Cartha have had more experience in the Premier League but we have been training hard and getting the win against Stewartry has helped build our confidence.

“At this level you need to be working on all aspects of your game but, in particular, we’ve been looking at our scrum and work in and around the ruck.”

‘Sonians won’t rely on the up front battle, however, as they look to expand their passing game.

Nimmo added: “Our backs have been trying to play more interesting rugby and being creative in the plays we run, while everyone has been looking to improve defensively.”

The visitors are looking to bounce back from defeat at the hands of second place RHC Cougars and could overtake their closest rivals with a win this weekend.

Head Coach of Cartha Queen’s Park, Steven Meenagh, said: “Our squad has been through a frustrating month. We were disappointed with our performance against Wandies but we took a lot positives from the game and have looked to right the wrongs.

“In the game against Stewartry, with tough weather conditions and playing a team with a lot of confidence, I was proud of the performance the girls put in. It was another step in the right direction.“

The game on Sunday will be another massive test and I am hoping the girls will continue their progress. They have been working hard in training and are all really determined to show what they are capable of.”

Elsewhere this Sunday, second play third as RHC Cougars travel to Stewartry and fourth take on fifth as Murrayfield Wanderers visit Stirling County.

Sarah Beaney Cup – Round 2

Round 2 of the Sarah Beaney Cup will also take place this Sunday (22 October).

The final round before BT Premier League sides enter the draw will see Kirkcaldy welcome Broughton while the Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities will travel to Annan and Greenock Wanderers respectively.
