BT Women’s Premier Preview: Wandies want first place
Murrayfield Wanderers travel to Castle Douglas this Sunday to face Stewartry with hopes of returning home with a bonus point win. After defeating RHC Cougars 53-15 at home during their rescheduled match on Wednesday evening, Wandies are now only one point behind Hillhead Jordanhill, who are on 46 points, in the league table. The mid-week game provided the perfect post-Christmas match for the Edinburgh based side ahead of their trip south on Sunday.Stewartry have played Wandies twice so far this season and have yet to put a point against them.New to the league this season, Stewartry Head Coach Sandy Currie says winning is not always his team’s goal and instead aims to set more realistic targets against leading teams like Wandies.Putting a score against Wandies would be a sign of improvement.Elsewhere, RHC welcome league leaders Hillhead to the capital and will look to bounce back after their defeat against Wandies earlier in the week.Hillhead know that Wandies are only just behind them in the table so will be aiming for a bonus point victory to try and widen that margin as far as possible.Back in Glasgow, Cartha Queen’s Park host Ayr and will look for revenge after their 51-5 defeat to the west coast side in November when the two teams last met.Ayr have yet to play Cartha away and know they may prove a challenge on home turf, considering both teams have won one match against each other from two.
