Captain Riddell returns to Scotland 7s squad
Captain Scott Riddell returns to the Scotland 7s squad ahead of the final World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series tournaments in Paris and London.Following the announcement that he will join the Edinburgh Rugby coaching staff next season, head coach Calum MacRae has made four changes to the squad that competed in Singapore. Riddell is included for the first time since Vancouver having recovered from injury.Jack Cuthbert is included in the Scotland 7s squad for the first time this season. The Jersey Reds winger has previously played for Edinburgh Rugby and Bath.Edinburgh Rugby’s Glenn Bryce is involved having scored for his club in the 1872 Cup clash against Glasgow last weekend and George Horne is also recalled.Scotland have been drawn against South Africa, Canada and Japan in Pool A in Paris.Scotland 7s head coach Calum MacRae said: “It’s great to have Scott back in, he’s a player who has a strong influence over our team performance. I know he can’t wait to get back and lead the team from the front.”Jack comes in for the first time and has strong experience from playing at the top level of the XVs game. I think he has huge potential and will have the opportunity to test himself on the World Series.”We came into form on the back end of last series, this year has had its challenges but I’m pleased with the balance of the squad we’ve assembled.”I look forward to the players stepping up. Concentration and staying in the moment is critical.”Scotland 7s Captain Scott Riddell said: “I’m really excited to get back to it after a few months out injured. The break has given me time to recharge my batteries and I’m raring to go now.”It’s been a frustrating year.
