Ellon welcome 2017 Golden Oldies
Ellon RFC will host the 2017 Scottish Golden Oldies Rugby Festival at the Meadows, Ellon. As part of the club’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, the festival will take place on Saturday 6 May 2017 and will be organised by Ythan Bears, Ellon’s Golden Oldies rugby team. The club are also hoping to field a squad of past members to compete at the festival with many travelling from afar to join former teammates for a day of rugby. The Local Organising Committee have been working hard since they were awarded the 2017 festival and met recently to discuss their plans with SGOR President, Dave McDonald, and SGOR Secretary, Katie Barnett. The event at Ellon will mark the 9th Scottish Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, which was jointly hosted for the first time this season by two clubs, Strathmore RFC and Brechin JRFC.The Scottish Golden Oldies welcome players aged 35 years and over, with the focus on participation rather than winning and an emphasis on “Fun, Friendship and Fraternity.”Golden Oldies rugby is played according to World Rugby Laws of the game with some variations and different coloured shorts signifying age. There is unlimited substitution; there is no pushing/lifting in scrums/lineouts, players aged 35-64 (red shorts) can be held and must immediately pass; players aged 65-74 (gold shorts) can be touched and must immediately pass; and purple shorts (75+) cannot be obstructed in any way.For further information on the 9th Scottish Golden Oldies Rugby Festival, please visit: www.pitchero.com/clubs/ellonrugbyfootballclubIt is advised that teams register their interest early by contacting [email protected] or [email protected]
