FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week – Round 10

FOSROC Super6 Team of the Week – Round 10

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

The tenth round of the FOSROC Super6 kicked off on Friday night where Watsonians secured top spot in the regular season with a 29-21 win over Heriot’s Rugby, Ayrshire Bulls prepared for a home semi-final against Boroughmuir Bears by beating them 33-21 at Meggetland and Stirling Wolves drew their tournament to a close with a 21-19 win away to Southern Knights.

Front row

Jamie Drummond put in another solid performance at loosehead prop for Ayrshire Bulls. His prop partner this week is Robbie Deans, the young Southern Knights tighthead showing up well in the scrum and the loose.

In between them, Elliot Young came off the bench for Heriot’s Rugby and was heavily involved in a late resurgence, scoring a try and making a line break.

Second row

Ronan Seydak caused issues for Watsonians throughout and kept the game alive for Heriot’s with a late steal at a maul that epitomised his work rate.

Alongside him, Hamish Ferguson proved a dynamic presence for Stirling Wolves in the loose.

Back row

George Arnott was powerful and abrasive in defence, but dynamic and quick in attack, working hard to earn his try for the Wolves. It was difficult to separate him and Archie Smeaton, so the Bulls back row is slotted in at openside after an industrial shift.

At number 8, Blair MacPherson’s strength was on show once more, the Bulls captain bulldozing his way through for a try.

Half backs

This weekend, all of the FOSROC Player of the Match awards went to backs. That started on Friday night, where Murray Scott ran in two tries for Watsonians and kept the pace of the game up.

His half-back partner on the night, Jason Baggott, showed his experience, kicking the ball into good areas of the pitch to give his side the territorial edge.

Centres

Ryan Southern was strong in defence, and a strong powerful runner in attack to get his try for the Wolves.

Lewis Berg looked dangerous every time he touched the ball, and played a key part in an outstanding team score in the second half for Watsonians.

Back three

Our two wingers were both FOSROC Player of the Match award winners. On the left, Eli Caven kept making yards for the Bulls and scored two tries. On the right, Aidan Cross continued his excellent form this season, his quick reactions and speed helping the Knights to a half time lead.

At full back, young Andrew McLean made his first start at FOSROC Super6 level for Boroughmuir Bears and showed his worth with an excellent try. Unlucky to miss out was Watsonians’ Dom Coetzer, who was a real threat with ball in hand all night on Friday.
