Preview: Glasgow at home and Edinburgh in Cardiff in URC
Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby are both back in BKT United Rugby Championship action this weekend.
Glasgow are underway first, as they host Benetton at Scotstoun Stadium tonight (kick-off 7.35pm) – live on Premier Sports.
Scotland U20 standouts Alex Samuel and Euan Ferrie are both in line for their Glasgow Warriors debuts this weekend, after both were named in the matchday 23.
Head Coach Franco Smith has named a starting XV showing 12 changes from the club’s most recent outing, as the Warriors look to finish the first block of 2022/23 fixtures on the front foot against their Scottish-Italian Shield rivals.
He said: “It’s great to be able to welcome Jamie Dobie back into the side and we’re looking forward to seeing Alex and Euan earn their debuts.
“Tomorrow is another challenge – Benetton out-performed us in the first week and we need to be at our best to rectify that tomorrow at Scotstoun in front of our home crowd.”
Then on Sunday, Edinburgh Rugby travel to face Cardiff Rugby at Cardiff Arms Park (kick off 3pm) – live on Premier Sports.
The team selection includes three changes to the side that claimed a bonus-point win against Zebre Parma last weekend as Pierce Phillips and Ben Muncaster come into the starting pack in place of Sam Skinner and Nick Haining, who are retained in the Scotland squad for the Autumn Nations.
Charlie Savala is the final change, at stand-off, with playmaker Jaco van der Walt taking a place on the bench.
Head Coach Mike Blair said: “Cardiff have had an impressive start to the season and are in a rich vein of form having won their last three. Last weekend’s victory against DHL Stormers showed just how dangerous they are at home.
“We know we’ll have to at our best from the first whistle to last in Cardiff but the squad are really excited for the challenge ahead and the opportunity to once again represent the club and city.”
