Sydney next up for Scotland 7s

The fourth leg of this season’s HSBC World Sevens Series takes place this weekend in Sydney, with Scotland once again being drawn with the tournament hosts in an exciting group.

As well as Australia, Ciaran Beattie’s team will face USA and Japan in Pool C at the Bankwest Stadium in Sydney’s Parramatta suburb.

First up for Scotland in the early hours of Saturday 1 February (GMT) are familiar foes USA in what will be a third pool stage meeting between the sides in four legs.

Beattie’s charges then face hosts Australia later that day before closing out the group by facing Japan on Sunday morning, again at an early time for UK-based viewers.

Femi Sofolarin misses out with a hamstring strain so Nyle Godsmark, previously 13th man, comes into the squad in his absence.

Head Coach Beattie said: “It’s another tough draw but one we’re excited about again, and we’ve a chance to beat USA after a couple of near misses in Dubai and then Hamilton.

“Facing Australia in their own back yard will provide a great atmosphere while Japan managed to draw with Kenya last week so we’ll give them the respect they deserve.

“The boys have played some great rugby in the series so far and we hope to continue to progress, starting in Sydney this weekend. It’ll be a great occasion and one we’re all very much looking forward to.”

Ross McCann scored two tries in Hamilton last week
