Howe welcome back Scotland stars for pavilion opening

Howe of Fife RFC will open its doors to their new home of club rugby with the help of Scotland stars past and present on Sunday 14 August at Duffus Park (12pm). Former Scotland internationals Dave Rollo and Fergus Thomson will join Glasgow Warriors duo Pete Horne and Chris Fusaro in opening the club’s new pavilion and changing rooms, having all previously played for Howe of Fife over the years. The club secured one of the largest awards from the first roll out of the Scottish Rugby Club Sustainability Fund, with£60,000 combining with£370,000 from sportscotland to help with the comprehensive pavilion project.Club funding has increased for a second year after a sum of£1.6million was set aside for investment in the domestic game across a four-year period in 2014-2015 by the Club Sustainability Fund, which was created by the wide-reaching sponsorship investment in Scottish Rugby by BT.Howe of Fife Business Development Manager, Cheryl King, whose position at the club is supported by an award from the 2016/17 revenue strand of the Club Sustainability Fund and The Robertson Trust, said: “The opening of the new facility will be an opportunity for everyone to come along and meet former Howe players who have reached the highest levels of the game, with touch rugby also on offer for youngsters. The facility at the rugby club is very much intended for use by the wider community. It will be an additional space for local organisations and we are delighted to meet local groups and show them around the new premises.”Club President, Murdo Fraser, added: “We are looking forward to Sunday, with the plans for the new building having started five years ago when club members decided they wanted to improve facilities to accommodate two senior men’s teams, the ladies team – Howe Harlequins – and a host of mini and midi teams. We are so proud of what has been achieved and I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible.  We now have a fantastic facility where we can build Howe of Fife’s future.”The BT National League Division 1 club are also hosting an open day tomorrow (Tuesday 9 August, 4-8pm) in the build-up to Sunday’s opening event. Everyone is welcome.
