More than just one day
“I never once imagined I would get the opportunity to play the sport I love for my country; it still seems like the most surreal thing in my life. Every time I wear the thistle, I wear it with pride and strive to continuously make an impact. With hard work and determination, nothing is out of reach.”Jade Konkel, Scotland Women – back row [pictured below] Sunday was International Women’s Day and Scottish Rugby’s women internationals were out and about inspiring the next generation – not just through a series of inspirational quotes on social media but out on the pitch.Amongst a number of events, BT Murrayfield played host to Edinburgh & the Lothians Girls’ Regional 7s, where six under-15 teams from across the region competed in the tournament on the back pitches, despite the unpredictable weather.High spirits and impressive skills were on display from the players from Murrayfield Wanderers, Dunbar/Ross High, Knox Academy, Forrester, Lismore and Midlothian. After the teams battled it out in the pool stages, Murrayfield Wanderers and a committed Dunbar/Ross High went forward into the final, with Knox Academy finishing in third place. Murrayfield Wanderers won the final against a relatively new Ross High/Dunbar side and will go on to represent the Edinburgh & the Lothians in the National 7s. Members of the Scotland Women’s squad (pictured above) including Jade Konkel went along to support the event. They wasted no time and immediately got involved, playing a competitive game of touch rugby against Murrayfield Wanderers under-18s.
