Alasdair Wemyss

18 Jan 2019

All at Highland Rugby Club are saddened by the sudden death of Alasdair Wemyss earlier this month. He was 62. His loss is keenly felt by everyone at the Club, who knew him as a prop, friend and coach.

Porky, as he was known to all and sundry, first played for the 1st XV at the age of 17 and went on to play at a very high level as Highland hit the big time, holding his own with many stars of the Scottish game. He also went on to play for the North & Midlands District and was well respected across the Scottish Rugby community.

When he retired from playing he had a light association with coaching until current Highland Head Coach Dave Carson brought him into his coaching staff. He played a vital role in helping drive Highland back up through the leagues from Caledonia Division 2 North to National 2. He was a great coach with a wealth of knowledge to pass onto young players.

The club have received many messages of sympathy & support from clubs across Scotland and this has been very much appreciated by all.

Our sympathies go out to his wife Val and his wider family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday 24 January at 12.15pm at the Methodist Church Huntly Street Inverness and all are welcome to attend.
