BT Cup Finals Day returns to BT Murrayfield

BT Cup Finals Day returns to BT Murrayfield on Saturday 16 April with Scotland’s leading clubs taking centre stage at the home of Scottish Rugby. A total of 12 finalists will compete for end of season glory across six matches with many Scotland Club XV and Scotland Women players in action on the day. In the BT Cup final, Melrose and Heriot’s will go head-to-head after both BT Premiership sides have impressed throughout the rounds. Melrose booked their place in the final after edging out this season’s BT Premiership table-toppers Ayr,  20-13 at Millbrae. Melrose captain, Bruce Colvine, said: “We are delighted to have reached a BT Cup final at BT Murrayfield this year, having enjoyed success throughout the competition. “We performed well in our semi-final against Ayr, who are a difficult side to overcome, and we will hope to bring our form into the final against Heriot’s.”Heriot’s secured their place in the final following a 10-10 tie with Glasgow Hawks at Old Anniesland and progressed as the away team. The club will also aim to achieve the double this season with Heriot’s featuring in the BT Premiership final against Ayr on Saturday 23 April. Heriot’s out-half, Gregor McNeish, said: “There is an attitude of togetherness across the club at the moment and we are looking forward to Saturday’s final. We have the opportunity to win both the BT Cup and BT Premiership this season and all at the club are relishing the chance. In the Sarah Beaney Cup final, Murrayfield Wanderers will take on Hillhead/Jordanhill in a repeat of last year’s final. Both sides have recently been fighting for domestic supremacy and the Sarah Beaney Cup provides both with an opportunity to assert their authority. Lisa Martin, captain of Murrayfield Wanderers and Scotland Women, said: “We have been preparing all season and building towards the Sarah Beaney Cup final.”It is a great opportunity to play on the International Pitch at BT Murrayfield and with the top two women’s clubs facing one another, it will be a massive game.” Jade Konkel, Hillhead/Jordanhill captain and Scotland Women No 8, said: “We know it’s going to be a very tough game and when we have played one another in the league, they have been close encounters. There is a healthy rivalry between the two clubs and we are confident that we can perform on the day.The BT Shield final will see Carrick contest Highland and the BT Bowl final will feature Millbrae and Aberdeen University. The BT Women’s Plate Final sees Stirling County battle it out with Watsonians for the title with Howe Harlequins and Glasgow University going head-to-head for the BT Women’s Bowl. All games taking place on the International Pitch at BT Murrayfield will be streamed live on Scottish Rugby TV’s YouTube channel on the day (BT Bowl Final, BT Shield Final, Sarah Beaney Cup Final and the BT Cup Final). Tickets cost£10 for adults and£5 for U18, student and senior citizens.
