BT Premiership ROUND-UP | Melrose max out as they end the calendar year on a high

15 Dec 2017

Melrose continued their relentless reign in BT Premiership as they sealed their 12th consecutive bonus-point victory, achieving an impressive 60 out of a possible 60 points at the end of the calendar year.

Frosty conditions in the east of Scotland took its toll on the BT Premiership this weekend, as three games were called off.

Slightly milder conditions in the west allowed Glasgow Hawks and Ayr to continue hosting their fixtures.

The Borders outfit were a force to be reckoned with from the get-go, as they established an early 12 point lead in the first half.

Glasgow Hawks strengthened their position in the game as they narrowed the gap to just two points by half time.

The visitors, however, carried their momentum into the second half, with the forwards making an impression on the scoreboard and hooker Russel Anderson leading the charge to score a hat-trick of tries.

Melrose are now 19 points ahead of second placed Heriot’s in the table, and will aim to maintain their winning momentum in the new year.

In a keenly contested match at Millbrae, Currie Chieftains overcame a resilient Ayr side by two points, as the hosts were reduced to 13 men early in the game with two of the players receiving a yellow card.

Hawick versus Heriot’s was called off early Friday evening due to an unplayable pitch.

On Saturday, Watsonians and Boroughmuir postponed their fixtures against Marr and Stirling County respectively due to the freezing temperatures.

BT Premiership Round 13 Results – Saturday 16 December
