Grangemouth Stagettes host Oban Lorne at Glensburgh this Sunday at 2pm for the Kelpies’ women’s first home match of the 2016/17 season.Oban Lorne came into the BT Women’s National League Division 2 this season following relegation from BT Women’s National League Division 1 after finishing eighth out of eight on 13 points, with two wins out of 14.Grangemouth also struggled last season, winning three out of 14 matches and placing seventh above Morgan who unfortunately folded at the end of last season as they consistently failed to raise a team. After a 38-0 victory at home against Helensburgh last weekend that shot the west coast women to the top of the table, Oban Lorne will be looking to continue with the same pace. When away at Duffus Park last weekend, Grangemouth racked up some tries but couldn’t keep Howe Harlequins at bay and were defeated 41-19, so the Stagettes hope the home advantage this week will bolster their chances of a win to strengthen their position in the top three; partly due to Lismore, Royal Dick Veterinary College and Annan Warriors having yet to play their first matches. This weekend Lismore are also set to host Royal Dick Veterinary College at Inch Park on Sunday at 2pm, whilst Annan Warriors v Howe Harlequins has been rescheduled for December due to Howe’s injuries. The fourth round of the BT Women’s Premier League will take place on Sunday 2 October; the same weekend which the preliminary round of the Sarah Beaney Cup will be held.
