BT Womens Premier League PREVIEW | Hillhead Jordanhill and Stirling County play the numbers game

Unbeaten Hillhead Jordanhill visit Stirling County on Sunday (1 October) as both teams reap the benefits of growing squads (Kick off 2pm).

Hills have enjoyed a perfect start to the season, chalking up a try bonus point in every match to sit four points clear after four games.

Stirling County, who are third with a game in hand, have also been in fine try-scoring form with a bonus point secured in each of their games.

The Glaswegians are targeting yet more success in the lead up to what they know will be a tough fixture.

Thomas Davidson, Head Coach of Hillhead Jordanhill, said: “We’ve had a great start to the league campaign this season, and that is testament to the hard-working attitude of the girls – always striving to get better and improve on even the smallest details.

“They are eager to be challenged in training so that they can implement things during games.

“We treat every team with respect in the build-up, as each week the challenge being put forward is different.”

Hills are not treating Sunday’s opposition any differently ahead of, what promises to be, a fast-paced and physical game.

However, they believe that great turn-outs at training will stand them in good stead.

Davidson added: “All the way back to pre-season, the numbers at training have been brilliant – we regularly have 25-30 attend at least one night.

“We met as a team earlier on in the season to discuss aims and objectives and one of the aims was to field a second team, which we’ve managed to do on two separate occasions.

“So, for the club and women’s rugby in Scotland, it’s extremely positive.”

Hosts, Stirling County have also made the most of an expanded training squad and are keen to capitalise on their hard work.

Lara Flint, Team Manager of Stirling County, said: “We have come a long way over the past couple of seasons and continue to grow as individual players and, more importantly, as a team.

“Good numbers at training have allowed us to run game plays which we weren’t able to do last season.

“We’re also receiving consistent strength and conditioning coaching, as well as having a new fixed coaching set-up with lots of experience to learn from.

“Hills are always a challenging opponent, and have been defeating teams with big scores, but we are excited to play them at Bridgehaugh and prepared to give them a good game in front of a home crowd.”

Elsewhere this Sunday, Murrayfield Wanderers welcome Ayr and RHC Cougars take on Edinburgh rivals Watsonians.

Stewartry host Cartha Queen’s Park in the remaining match.
