Clubs pay tribute to Doddie Weir

Following the announcement on Saturday 26 November of the passing of Scotland and British & Irish Lions legend Doddie Weir OBE, clubs across Scotland paid their respects and honoured his memory at events and games on Sunday (27 November). Here, we share some of those tributes.

There was an outpouring of love from Preston Lodge and Leith Hawks as players and supporters came together for a minutes applause.

East Kilbride and Livingston’s U14 Boys also joined in applause with the visitors donning Doddie’s iconic blue and yellow tartan headbands too.

Dunfermline Women and Grangemouth Women also paid tribute with applause on Sunday at McKane Park.

Hawick Youth U15 Boys side were joined by Stirling County’s counterparts in applause for the Border’s legend.

In the Highlands, Ross Sutheland and Caithness youth sides marked out the pitch to create a ‘5’ on the pitch as seen in this fantastic aerial shot.

The Minis and Micros at Dumfries Saints and Cumnock Rugby Club also put their hands together in a tribute to Doddie, and started a collection to fundraise for Motor Neurone Disease charities.

Applause rippled through Banchory as more than 200 young players from Deeside, Garioch, Aberdeen Grammar and the Madrascals from St Andrews came together to honour Doddie.
