But with Scotland short on numbers, he ended up trying out on the wing with players from the birthplace of his grandfather for the hour-long session. It was a dream come true, said Hunter, who moved to Ottawa from Kingston two years ago. The guys were so nice. They’d just come off a 13-hour flight the previous day but they were so helpful. Even if I made a mistake they just gave me pointers about how to improve. On top of my Prom, it’s a weekend I’ll remember forever. In fact Hunter, who had even purchased a Scotland shirt over the internet complete with his name inscribed on the back, did not disgrace himself. Scotland A’ team captain Fergus Thomson said: Dan did very well and made a good break at one point. He was really enthusiastic and maybe there’s a future for the guy in rugby. Despite their jetlag, the whole Scotland A squad turned out to run a coaching clinic for 100 young people, including a team from Chelsea (Quebec). Scotland A Head Coach Rob Moffat said: We had a good first session this morning and it was a pleasure to be here. It’s always important to work with the kids because they are the future and it’s good for the players because they always learn something, particularly about communicating with young people. With an inflatable rugby kicking cage and bungee try run it was a morning to remember and organiser Brian Lyall added: The children had great fun and it’s fantastic that Scotland have given their time to come here. It exposes our young players to rugby as an international sport and we are delighted with how it went.
