District sides finish second and fifth in Merchiston Castle School U18 Rugby Festival

The two regional sides, which were made up of FOSROC Academy players who were not already playing for a club or school side at the festival, both finished with five wins and one loss.

Glasgow Caledonian Reds started the day with a 21-12 win over Boroughmuir RFC in the trophy quarter finals, whilst Merchiston beat Dollar 10-8. Edinburgh Reivers lost out 9-0 to Seaford College to join Boroughmuir and Dollar in the plate.

From there, Glasgow Caledonian Reds and Merchiston advanced to the final, beating Seaford (10-0) and Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation (15-12) respectively, before Merchiston went on to lift the trophy.

In the plate, Edinburgh Reivers beat Boroughmuir 26-7 in the semi-final, and Dollar were 22-17 victors against Mount St Mary’s College. The 17-7 win for Edinburgh Reivers in the plate final meant they were fifth overall, and Dollar were sixth. A loss to Mount St Mary’s meant Boroughmuir ended in eighth.

Peebles and Ayr both ended up against each other in the shield semi-finals. A 40-12 win for Peebles saw them advance to the final, which they lost to Norwich School, meaning they were 14th in the standings. A loss to Wycliffe College meant Ayr finished 16th.

The FOSROC Academy activity continues on Wednesday, where the U17 regional sides will face each other in 30-minute matches.
