Edinburgh completed a double over their Glasgow & The West counterparts and Caledonia and The Borders & East Lothian shared the spoils in their two matches at yesterday’s (Sunday 29 July) Glasgow & The West Regional Championship.

The matches at Broadwood Stadium kicked off with a convincing 35-12 win for Edinburgh U16 as tries from Alex Burns, Mathew Russell, Aidan Boyle, Harvey Cameron-Byre and Brodie Young (plus five conversions from Russell) were too much for two scores from Nairn Calder and Callum Smith (conversion for Duncan Munn) for Glasgow & The West.

The home region’s U18 team seemed to be faring better in the second match but were unable to hold onto a 21-14 half-time lead, eventually succumbing to a 28-33 loss.

Edinburgh U18’s Hari Morris crossed the whitewash while Angus Hoffie and Finlay McNeil both grabbed braces (in addition to Nathan Moffat’s four conversions) to narrowly beat Glasgow in spite of tries from Finlay Neilson, Adam Scott and two from Jamie Drummond (with four conversions from Adam Scott).

Caledonia U16 built on a strong opening 40 against The Borders & East Lothian, recording 15 unanswered points in the second half to win 34-15.

Tries came from Grant Hall, Archie Falconer, Cameron Lynn, Callum Becket (who also scored two conversions) and two for Henry Clark for Cale and Elliot Young, Ben Lynch and Fin Douglas for the Borders.

The final match of the day was a tight affair as The Borders & East Lothian defended a 14-0 half-time lead in an entirely scoreless second period.

A try and two conversions for Nathan Sweeney along with a score for Mathew Crain was enough for them to see out the second-half

The penultimate round of the Regional Championships will take place at Netherdale this Sunday (5 August).
