Edinburgh v Connacht | Scarlets v Glasgow Warriors

4 Mar 2022

Edinburgh host Connacht on Friday night in their first DAM Health Stadium fixture since January while Glasgow Warriors travel to Llanelli for a Saturday evening clash with Scarlets in the URC.

Edinburgh Rugby welcome Connacht for a crunch time clash in the United Rugby Championship, their first DAM Health Stadium fixture since January.

The home side are looking to bounce back after a tricky set of away fixtures, but will have no small task beating the Galwaymen, who sit just one place below them in the league standings.

The latest instalment of ‘Friday Night Lights’, the capital club will be defending an unbeaten record in their new stadium, with only the DHL Stormers being able to avoid defeat at DAM Health Stadium.

On a crucial URC tie, Head Coach Mike Blair said:

“It has been a tough period for the club because we’ve had three away games on the trot against good quality opposition and with guys out for us.

“There’s a lot of different thigs to look at with this role at Edinburgh – we only have two professional teams, part of it is helping to develop guys, but we want to have this mindset about wanting to play for the jersey and I believe we’ve got real buy-in on that as well.

“They have been difficult games but that is a great indicator of where these fringe players and young guys coming through are, and where they can get to as well.”

Tickets are still available from edinburghrugby.org.

Story of the match

Edinburgh are down to fifth having slipped to three successive URC defeats.

They have not lost four on the bounce since October 2020 and are unbeaten at home in all competitions for six games.

Connacht are on the trail of a third successive URC victory, having toppled the Scarlets and DHL Stormers, which is a run they last achieved almost a year ago.

Both games between Edinburgh and Connacht last season were won by the away side while Connacht have claimed four victories from their last six visits to the Scottish capital.

Scarlets v Glasgow Warriors

A trip to west Wales awaits Glasgow Warriors this weekend, as Danny Wilson’s men head to Llanelli for a Saturday evening clash with the Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship.

The Warriors will be looking to add to a strong run of URC form that sees them come into the match on the back of five straight wins in the competition, a run that has propelled them to third in the overall standings.

Having not made the trip to Parc y Scarlets since 2018, however, there will be no underestimating the hosts from those in Glasgow colours when the whistle blows for kick-off this weekend.

Flashback

Trips to Llanelli haven’t always yielded fond memories for the Warrior Nation, but there was to be no denying Glasgow Warriors on a sunny afternoon in April 2016.

A Gregor Townsend-led side set about putting their hosts to the sword, with Finn Russell contributing 21 points in a 46-10 win over the Scarlets.

Lee Jones (twice), Henry Pyrgos, Mark Bennett and Tommy Seymour also crossed the whitewash, in a comprehensive victory for those in black and blue.
