Exiled Scots in elite action
31 Aug 2018
Some eight Scotland caps from the current crop will feature in the English Premiership this weekend – five starting and three on the bench – while a further three could run out in the French Top14 and one in the PRO14.
David Denton is the only forward to start as he makes his Leicester Tigers debut against Exeter Chiefs, while Worcester Warriors stand-off Duncan Weir also debuts against Wasps.
The remaining starting berths are occupied by outside backs as Chris Harris (Newcastle), Byron McGuigan (Sale Sharks) and Sean Maitland (Saracens) kick-off their season openers against Saracens, Quins and Newcastle respectively.
James Lang (Harlequins) and Josh Strauss (Sale Sharks) could feature against one another if called upon from the bench, while replacement back-row Cornell du Preez is primed for his Worcester debut if called upon against Wasps.
Meanwhile in France, Scotland half-backs Greig Laidlaw and Finn Russell could lock horns for the first time in the French Top14, as Racing 92 host Clermont this Sunday, while lock Richie Gray could also feature for Toulouse on their travel to face Grenoble (teams not announced at time of writing).
Lastly, in the Guinness PRO14, Sam Hidalgo-Clyde is set to make his debut as Scarlets’ Starting scrum-half against Ulster.
