Fantastic Farewell For Scotland Squad
26 Aug 2011
More than 1500 supporters gave Scotland a rousing send-off to the Rugby World Cup after their final training session at Scotstoun in Glasgow today. The fans, mainly children who came with their teachers and rugby development staff to the ground that is the training base for Glasgow Warriors, were thanked on behalf of the squad by Scotland captain Alastair Kellock. Kellock said: “We aim to do you proud in New Zealand and thank you very much for coming along to see us today. “As a Glaswegian it’s been great that we’ve been able to do our farewells in my home city, especially after the superb farewell dinner organised by Hearts and Balls here last night.” Proceeds from that charity dinner will go to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Fund. Scotland fly out from Glasgow tomorrow en route to their Queensland training camp ahead of their first Rugby World Cup game in 15 days’ time against Romania in Invercargill. Only stand-off Ruaridh Jackson, who was resting a mild leg injury, did not participate in training – though Ruaridh was kept very busy signing autographs while his team-mates were put through their paces. At the end of training players were given a raucous greeting by supporters who then made a bee-line for autographs and photographs.
