FOSROC SUPER6 SPRINT SERIES TEAM OF THE WEEK | PLAY OFF ROUND 2

6 Jun 2022

Following the weekend's round of FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series fixtures, we’ll bring you a Team of the Week selected from those who stood out for us over the weekend.

In the second weekend of the FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series Playoffs, Watsonians fended off a late Ayrshire Bulls comeback by just three points (21-24), and Southern Knights recorded their first win of the tournament over Heriot’s Rugby on home-soil at The Greenyards (19-14).

FRONT ROW
The Watsonian’s pack made the difference on Friday night and so Sam Grahamslaw earns a spot as one of this weeks props alongside Heriot’s Dan Gamble.

Fraser Renwick earns the spot at hooker, as mobile and as dynamic as ever he was instrumental in getting Knights off to a good start on Saturday.

SECOND ROW
Heriot’s Fraser Hastie put in a great performance for the city side at The Greenyards on Saturday, he’s joined in the boiler house with Knight’s Dalton Redpath who put in the hard yards to allow good attacking platforms for his side to score from.

BACK-ROW
This week’s back-row is made up from two experienced heads and youngster. Iain Moody (Watsonians) and Iain Wilson (Heriot’s Rugby) take up positions on the flanks with young Sam Derrick (Southern Knights) securing a spot at number 8 thanks to his FOSORC Super6 Player of the Match performance on Saturday.

HALF-BACKS
Ben Afshar was fantastic for the Southern Knights on Saturday but it was Watsonians scrum-half Rory Brand who produced a clinical display to help guide the visitors to another win on Friday night.

Nathan Chamberlain (Southern Knights) was instrumental in pulling the strings around him bagging himself a try on Saturday to secure the Knights an elusive win.

CENTRE
Although on the wrong side of the score line, Heriot’s Cammy Hutchison punches holes in the Knights defence at every opportunity, he’s joined in the centre this week with Ayrshire Bulls Tom Jordan.

Although he came on with 35mins gone, it was clear that his presence is what the Bulls needed as they scores all their points after this with one fanstastic try coming from his chip and chase.

BACK-THREE
Knights Aidan Cross retains his place on the wing from last week, his electric place providing too much for the visitors.

Lomond McPherson picked up another FOSROC Super6 Player of the Match award this weekend and his balanced running, turn of pace and try scoring ability earns him a spot in this weeks team on the wing with Ayrshire Bulls Liam McNamara earning the full-back position.
