Four changes to Scotland 7s ahead of Hong Kong

1 Apr 2019

Scotland 7s Head Coach John Dalziel has made four alterations to his squad ahead of the latest leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series, which takes place in Hong Kong this weekend.

After eventually being eliminated in the Challenge Trophy semi-finals last time out in Vancouver, Dalziel’s men will face Samoa, South Africa and Japan in the Pool stages as the Series arrives at one of the most prestigious events on the calendar.

Edinburgh Rugby winger Tom Brown returns to the Scotland 7s setup for the first time since 2017, whilst club team-mate Sean Kennedy is included having last featured at the 2018 Sydney Sevens.

Elsewhere, Ally Miller and Jo Nayacavou also make a return to a squad that will once again be led by co-captains Robbie Fergusson and Jamie Farndale.

“It’s great to have both Tom and Sean who are both very diligent professionals and have really added to the group both on and off the field,” said Dalziel.

“Their experience of playing regular professional rugby over many seasons and both have previously played sevens mean that this has been an easy transition and great for our younger players to learn from.

“Hong Kong is a special tournament and all teams raise the bar for this one. We have a very physical group with Samoa and South Africa, before playing Japan who will be well supported. We must get our basics right straight from the start on Friday night and make sure we have a clean performance.

“Our contact has to be right and we must win collisions on both sides of the ball. We’ve trained well and we must take that into the weekend, be accurate on our individual tackles and quick and decisive on our ball carry and contact.

“We have played some very good rugby over the season and the group are determined to keep improving with four legs remaining.”
