Hart beats with pride following senior Scotland call
20 May 2014
Uncapped Edinburgh Rugby scrum-half Grayson Hart couldn’t hide his pride on learning he had secured a place in the Scotland squad, announced yesterday, for the coming summer tour. The chirpy, New Zealand-born nine has impressed and endeared himself to the club’s home support since his August arrival, having first worked his way into capital contention with impressive performances for Gala RFC in the RBS Premiership.A handful of opportunities soon came his way before a bruising and industrious shift away against Gloucester in the Heineken Cup, and a winter brace against the Ospreys [celebration pictured right], saw his stock rise rapidly. He has been a near ever-present in the match-day 23 since the turn of the year, and was soon rewarded with his first shot at international honours, for Scotland A against England Saxons. The Scotland A-game against England was an awesome honour. It made it all real for me, especially being able to sing the anthem.”I’m really passionate about it. It was a really cool feeling and made me even hungrier to strive for higher honours.”- – Edinburgh Rugby scrum-half, Grayson Hart.Scotland’s touring party has been divided into two, with only a handful of players competing for selection across all four Tests, none of which are scrum-halves.As it stands that will see Hart compete with 10-times capped Glasgow Warrior, Henry Pygros, for the chance to start the second stage of the tour against Argentina and South Africa.Hart added: “I’m obviously delighted about being selected.”Playing for Scotland will be another big step up from anything I’ve ever experienced, into the highest level in the game.If I do get the chance to run out there it will be something my family and I will be very proud of.- – Grayson Hart.”Understandably they were all very, very excited to hear the news. They’ve been tracking my progress all the way and were over the moon.”But it’s one thing to be selected for the touring squad, and another to make the team. It’s now up to me to work my hardest and make the most of this opportunity to show that I can perform on the tour and beyond.”I just want to make the most of this chance and enjoy the experience.”
