Historic host for Scotland this summer

4 Feb 2020

South Africa’s DHL Newlands Stadium in Cape Town will host the Springboks against Scotland on Saturday 4 July in what will be the venue’s final Test.

It will be South Africa’s first match since winning the Rugby World Cup in Japan at the tail end of last year and the first time they have faced Scotland since November 2018, when they travelled to Edinburgh and won 26-20 at BT Murrayfield.

The two sides then meet again a week later at Jonsson Kings Park in Durban, scene of South Africa’s semi-final triumph over France at their iconic home Rugby World Cup in 1995.

The Springboks will go on to face Georgia after the conclusion of the two-Test series, as Gregor Townsend’s men travel to New Zealand for a one-off encounter with the All Blacks at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin on 18 July.

SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux said: “The Springboks had a fantastic season last year which resulted in successes in both the Castle Lager Rugby Championship and the Rugby World Cup.

“There is a huge amount of excitement amongst our fans to watch the Springboks live in action again in our own backyard and this year’s home schedule will give them just that, starting with a farewell to DHL Newlands in the first Test against Scotland.”
