6 Oct 2014
Scotland internationalists drew round one of the Sarah Beaney Cup today at BT Murrayfield Stadium.Scotland women’s scrum-half Sarah Law drew the home teams, while Scotland’s most capped and top points scorer, Chris Paterson took responsibility for the away teams. At this stage in competition only BT National League Division 1 and 2 teams are drawn with the BT Women’s Premier League teams joining in rounds two and three. Some of the picks of the bunch from today’s draw that will be played on Sunday 26 October, are between Stewartry, who will make the 240 mile trip to Kellands Park to play Garioch, and a west coast derby between Ayr and Glasgow University. They will meet at Millbrae. Law, who has previously won the trophy with Murrayfield Wanderers, the 2014 champions, said: “This is a really good competition that runs alongside the leagues. Some great ties have emerged today. Every year you don’t know what’s going to happen in the competition because, with it being a knockout tournament any team can win.”It’s also a trophy that means a lot to the teams competing for it.”The Sarah Beaney Cup is played in memory of the former Murrayfield Wanderers player who died in a car crash in 2005.Sarah Beaney Cup round one (to be played on Sunday 26 October): Lismore v Dundee University, Inch ParkMorgan Academy v Cartha Queens Park, Alloway PlaceAberdeenshire Quines v Watsonians, WoodsideGarioch v Stewartry, Kellands ParkBroughton v Oban Lorne, Wardie Playing FieldsAyr v Glasgow University, Millbrae
