Peter Burgon announced as Glasgow North Regional Director
4 Jul 2019Scottish Rugby has today announced the appointment of Pete Burgon as the new Regional Director for the Glasgow North region.
Scottish Rugby has today announced the appointment of Pete Burgon as the new Regional Director for the Glasgow North region.
Burgon has been employed at the University of St Andrews for the past seven years, initially as Saints Sport’s Club and Competitions Manager, before taking up the post of Assistant Director (Sport Development).
For the last two years, Burgon has been combining the voluntary role of Chair of Scottish Student Sport with his professional commitments and brings a wealth of experience in the sports development sector.
Burgon will take up his new post in Scottish Rugby’s regional structure of staff from organisation’s Rugby Development department in August and will oversee the delivery of rugby locally and be the lead contact for grassroots clubs in the area.
On his appointment, Peter Burgon said, “It feels like a really positive time for rugby in Scotland and I’ve heard great things about many of the people that I will be working with, alongside working for Scottish Rugby itself. I can’t wait to get started.”
Director of Rugby Development, Sheila Begbie MBE said, “We are really pleased to be welcoming Peter as one of our five Directors in the Rugby Development Dept, he joins us at an exciting time for the community game.
“He brings with him extensive knowledge of sports development and will play a key-role in delivering our strategy in the region, working closely with our clubs, schools and stakeholders across the Glasgow North area.”
Prior to his position at the University of St Andrews, he has held positions at the University of Abertay Dundee, the University of London Union and the University of Stirling.
A former player, Peter also served a three-year term as Club Captain of Harris Academy FP in Dundee.
