Preview: Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby in URC action

22 Apr 2022

Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby are both in URC action tonight.

Warriors are up first, taking on Stormers in South Africa (kick off 5.30pm BST).

Glasgow go into the game three points ahead of their opponents in the URC table, with Glasgow in third and Stormers in fifth.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in professional history.

Ahead of the game, Head Coach Danny Wilson said: ““After a strong showing against Newcastle last weekend, we’re looking forward to another challenging test against the Stormers tomorrow night.

“With four players returning to the squad we know we’ll need to be at our best against a strong Stormers team.

“The Stormers have a very strong team with an abundance of pace and a strong forward pack. Despite having a limited training week, due to travel, the boys are fresh and looking forward to taking them on in Cape Town.”

The game will be live on Premier Sports 1.

Later tonight, Edinburgh will take on Zebre at DAM Health Stadium (kick off 7.35pm).

The capital club enter the game in fine form, having comfortably beaten Section Paloise and Bath Rugby in their most recent outings – both in the EPCR Challenge Cup.

Zebre are yet to pick up a win in the league this season, however shouldn’t be underestimated, and start with a number of Italy internationals, all of whom were involved in the recent Guinness Six Nations.

On the fixture, Skills and assistant attack coach Gareth Baber said: “Zebre can create pressure in the game against us and we need to keep focus on what it is that gets us these results and ultimately manage games to ensure we are in the ascendancy.

“It’s something we came through at the weekend and it’s something that I’m sure we’ll be challenged on again when Zebre come over here.

“There are elements of their game that we know we’ve got to understand and be aware of but equally it’s a big part of our development to ensure that when we get opportunities to look after the bits that we can gain performance from then we’re smart with how we do that, and we have the right people on the field to deliver that.

“It’s the next game, the next challenge and we won’t take it lightly. You only have to ask Wales about getting a backlash from an Italian team. We very much see this as the next challenge and we’re going to have to be at our best to ensure we do get the victory.”

The game is also live on Premier Sports 1.
