PRO14 comp winners to enjoy half-time showcase

24 May 2019

Rugby players from four Scottish schools and clubs are getting ready for their moment in the spotlight at Celtic Park this Saturday (25 May).

Glasgow Warriors will bid to become champions when they take on Leinster in the PRO14 final in front of a crowd of more than 40,000 fans. At half-time, players from Auchinleck Academy, Sandaig Primary, Hamilton Rugby and Aberdeen Wanderers will get the chance to show off their skills on the famous pitch.

Alan Falconer, Glasgow South Regional Manager, said “Providing positive experiences to young people is at the heart of our values.

“This opportunity is unique and Celtic Park will be an experience these young people remember for the rest of their life.”

In the run-up to the final, the PRO14 trophy visited schools and rugby clubs across Scotland. Those who enjoyed a visit from the famous silverware were invited to share a photo of their team with the trophy on twitter. The winning photos were then chosen and the young players are now looking forward to a one-off experience.

Stephen Rabie, Auchinleck Academy’s CashBack School of Rugby teacher, said “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some of our young people.

“It is great to be recognised for our hard work as a CashBack School of Rugby and social media has played a big apart in the advertising and development of our programme.”

Two short games will be played at half-time, with Aberdeen Wanderers taking on East Ayrshire’s Auchinleck and Hamilton Rugby facing Glasgow’s Sandaig Primary.
