Redpath “buzzing” after first cap

Scotland teams have travelled to face England at Twickenham for the last 38 years and have not managed to come home with a win. The closest they got was the 38-38 draw two years ago.

That run of defeats came to an end last night in front of an empty stadium, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

One man who played a key role, was Cameron Redpath. His Dad, Bryan represented Scotland 60 times and now his son has his first under his belt and Cameron will never forget his first game.

He said: “It was very exciting and all the lads are buzzing, it’s unreal to be a part of it.

“Finn [Russell] said to me earlier in the week, let’s get you on the ball early and make sure you get that first carry and from then on I seemed to get a lot of ball. It couldn’t have been a better first start.

“My Dad watched me being presented with my cap on Zoom and Stuart Hogg presented it to me.

“Chris Harris is a great guy and a great player. For me it was really comfortable [playing alongside him] and he chatted to me the whole time which made it really easy. He’s a really good defender and I loved playing with him.”

Cameron, who was born in France and grew up in England, has decided to represent the country his Dad was born in and played for with distinction and he admitted the way Scotland play was one of the reasons he wanted to pull on the blue shirt.

He added: “I didn’t want to rush into any decision [to play international rugby] and I wanted to earn it.

“I felt it was the right time to come into international rugby and Hoggy [Stuart Hogg] had been in touch quite a bit. He felt I could play a massive part for us and for me it was the right time and he had had a massive say on my decision.

“The way we play as a squad is enjoyable for our fans and enjoyable for us, so that was a massive appeal for me.”
