The rugby community lost one of its most devoted souls last December when “Mr Portobello”, Barry Sinclair passed away. He was 70.
Barry progressed from the playing ranks as a prop at Portobello to fulfilling every conceivable off-field role.
He also served on numerous competition committees and was a member of the Scottish Rugby Council from 2007 until 2012.
A passionate driving force of age-grade rugby, Barry also took great pride in serving as a trustee of Scottish Rugby’s own charity, the Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation.
An online collection for the Foundation, organised by Barry’s family, raised some £2,804 and Barry’s son Chris was on hand to present a cheque to MIPF chairman, Ian Rankin at BT Murrayfield.
The Foundation has also received a donation of £446 from the Glasgow North region clubs’ awards dinner; and a further donation of around £400 from the Earlston club, following a collection at the hospitality marquee at their recent sevens tournament.
Ian Rankin said: “Barry was devoted to the work of the Foundation and looking out for those who are going through challenging times as a result of a rugby injury. The generous donation from Barry’s family and the further donations from Glasgow North and Earlston are very much appreciated.”
