REPORT: Scotland U18 17-28 Wales U18

Scotland U18 Head Coach, Ross Miller, said: “Obviously, we’re disappointed about not getting the result but as always it’s about key learnings.

“It’s very much about challenging the guys at an International level. I thought there were some tough periods for the players and some of which they came through very well. We’ll stick to our task and look to improve certain areas of our game.

“We will review the footage and then turn our mind to the Irish game where we will re-group and look for another big effort and a good performance.”

Scotland came out firing during the early exchanges and were able to put the first points on the scoreboard following a successful penalty by Harry Paterson (3-0).

The tables quickly turned and Wales were soon in control of possession and territory but some handling errors marred the progress of their attack.

A great cover tackle from scrum-half Jamie Dobie prevented Wales from scoring on the 4^th minute. Moments later the Welsh were back on the attack and almost crossed the line but a fumble of the ball stopped them in their tracks.

Wales rallied and soon found their stride following two tries in quick succession by speedy winger Louis Rees-Zammit and a further try by Ioan Lloyd (3-21).

Scotland showed signs of promise in the final stages of the first-half and were rewarded for their efforts when prop Jamie Drummond picked up the ball from the back of a well-worked driving maul and bundled his way over, with Paterson adding the extras (10-21).

The Welsh carried their momentum into the second-half when Lloyd grabbed his second try of the game, with the stand-off converting his own try (10-28).

Scotland were able to apply pressure throughout the rest of the encounter and were back on the scoresheet when Paterson scampered in at the corner, with Dobie capping it off with a successful conversion (17-28).

The Scots continued to fight towards the end of the match but the rapid Welsh defence hindered their ability to add any further points to the scoreboard.
