What a start to the Rugby World Cup trophy tour in Scotland today!With the backdrop of the historic 12th century Jed Abbey, the trophy began its five day tour around Scotland in glorious sunshine and with hundreds of youngsters from Jedburgh and surrounding villages gathering at Jed Thistle’s ground at Lothian Park.Roy Laidlaw, hero of Scotland’s 1984 Grand Slam, was joined by fellow British Lions and former Scotland captains Finlay Calder and Gary Armstrong, Jed’s oldest former internationalist Davy Rose, Scotland Women’s cap Chloe Rollie and England 2015 ambassador, 2003 World Cup winner Will Greenwood on a wonderful morning in the Borders.The tour is part of celebrations as the countdown continues to Rugby World Cup in England this auutumn.Scotland 7s cap Scott Wight, Scotland under-20 cap Andrew Nagel and a host of rugby fans from near and far also made for a high benchmark for the rest of the tour, which will encompass the other home countries as well, as Will Greenwood noted.Tomorrow (Friday) the trophy will visit North Berwick RFC and Edinburgh Rugby for more festival activity involving youngsters.  On Saturday it will be at Howe of Fife RFC in Cupar and Orkney RFC in Kirkwall.  Sunday sees the trophy at Highland RFC’s Canal Park ground in Inverness, while a packed itinerary concludes in Scotland on Monday at Glasgow Warriors then at Ayr RFC’s Millbrae ground. For more information on the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, visit our new online hub: www.thescotlandteam.com.
