The Schools & Youth Conference programme is now well underway with the arrival of a new Girls’ President’s Conference involving teams at under-15 and under-18 level from across six clubs. The 35-conference structure is designed to provide teams with regular fixtures, develop young players and retain their involvement in the game beyond their teenage years.Last season saw over 10,000 players involved in 1,894 games within schools and clubs across Scotland. Schools and clubs with five or more teams in place are grouped into conferences with points awarded for each age-group win to determine an overall standing for a club/school within a conference. In the Schools’ Red Conference last weekend, Stewart’s Melville College overcame Edinburgh Academy across all five age-groups to go top of the conference, with the under-18 fixture resulting in a 22-7 victory for Stewart’s Melville.Robert Gordon’s College and Fettes College are both whole school leaders in the Blue Conference, Hutcheson’s Grammar and High School of Glasgow sit top of the White Conference, while Stewart’s Melville College ‘B’ lead the way in the Green Conference. The Purple Conference sees Linlithgow Academy pip Lasswade High School to first in the whole school conference standings and Wellington School lead the Black Conference after four rounds of competition. In the Club President’s Conference, Stirling County and Ayr are level on points after defeating Currie Colts and Boroughmuir at the weekend across several age-groups.Mackie are top of the Club Red Conference and lead Ellon by 14 points, GHA are two points in front of Hamilton, while Allan Glens top the Club Brown Conference and are seven points ahead of Dalziel.Gordonstoun, who are currently at the lower end of the Club Red Conference table, recorded their first win at under-13 level against Ellon at the weekend.Melrose currently top the Borders Town v Town Conference and are closely followed by Peebles and Jedburgh. In the Girls’ President’s Conference, Stirling County lead with both under-15 and under-18 sides overcoming Caithness at the weekend. Biggar pushed past Murrayfield Wanderers at both age-groups, defeating Wandies 50-42 in a close encounter at under-18 level and scoring highly against an under-15 side. This weekend’s pick of the schools’ conference fixtures takes the form of an Ayrshire derby when Carrick Academy host Marr College in the Black Conference. The Royal High School and North Berwick High go head-to-head in the Green Conference, while leaders of the Purple Conference Linlithgow Academy visit Berwick Rugby. For a full list of conference results and fixtures, visit: http://www.scottishrugby.org/fixtures-results-schools-youth
