Day two at the Rugby World Cup 7s in Moscow was a mixed bag for Scotland 7s, winning their first game to hosts Russia, 21-5 and then losing out to group B winners South Africa, 41-0.The Scots now move into the Plate competition where they’ll play Portugal at 8.42am (BST), this is the trophy they won in Dubai four years ago.Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: “We’re the defending champions of the Plate, tomorrow we must go out and show what that means to us.”The challenge for everyone will be to move on from today and turn up ready for tomorrow’s game v Portugal.”They are a team we know well, we came up against them a lot in this year’s World Series and the matches were always close. We’re going to have to front up and not stand off them. We can’t afford to let them play.”Youngster Chris Dean made quite an impact in the first match of day two, scoring the first try early on, his score was followed by tries from Andrew Turnbull and Mark Robertson; all three were converted by captain Colin Gregor. In the second match of the day, Scotland were out done in speed, defence and attack, with South Africa running in a painful seven tries. If Scotland 7s win tomorrow’s tie, they’ll go head-to-head with the winner of the Canada and Tonga match.Rugby World Cup 7s – Moscow 2013Day oneScotland 7s 19-17 Japan 7sTries: Chris Dean, Andrew Turnbull and Michael FedoConversions: Colin Gregor (2)Starting team:  Michael Fedo, Scott Riddell, Colin Shaw, Alex Glashan, Colin Gregor, Chris Dean and Andrew Turnbull.Subs: Mark Robertson, Struan Dewar (10mins), James Johnstone (13mins), Jim Thompson and Michael Maltman (not used).Day twoScotland 7s 21-5 Russia 7sTries: Chris Dean, Andrew Turnbull and Mark RobertsonConversions: Colin Gregor (3)Starting team: Michael Fedo, Scott Riddell, Colin Shaw, Alex Glashan, Colin Gregor, Chris Dean and James Johnstone.Subs: Mark Robertson (7mins), Struan Dewar, Andrew Turnbull (both 10mins), Jim Thompson (12mins) and Michael Maltman (13mins).Scotland 7s 0-41 South Africa 7sStarting team: Michael Fedo, Scott Riddell, Colin Shaw, Alex Glashan, Colin Gregor, Mark Robertson and Andrew Turnbull.Subs: Chris Dean, Jim Thompson (both 7mins), Struan Dewar (10mins), Michael Maltman and James Johnstone (both 11mins)
