Scotland 7s Star Goes Back To School
19 Apr 2012
Scotland 7s star Adam Ashe returned to his former primary school in Alva, Clackmannanshire today to meet the pupils in person having been in touch from across the world while playing in the HSBC Sevens World Series. The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s is being held at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow on May 5 and 6 and Alva Primary School will be taking a bus full of young rugby fans to cheer on Adam and the whole of the Scotland 7s squad.18-year-old Adam has been sending postcards back to the school, keeping them up to date about his globetrotting rugby career, which has seen him play in all seven tournaments of the series so far including New Zealand, Las Vegas and Dubai.A native of Clackmannanshire, the number 8 started playing rugby at Alva Academy going on to play for Stirling County. He is currently part of the Elite Development Programme with Glasgow Warriors. As well as taking part in a special Q & A session with Primary 6 and 7 pupils, Adam also helped local Development Officer Steve Swindall with special coaching sessions for classes before going on to hold another session at nearby Alava Academy.Adam said: “We spend a lot of time on the road, travelling around the world but it’s been great to have that connection to back home. “Alva is where I started to play rugby and it’s great to be back here, putting on some coaching sessions and giving a bit back to the school and the area. “It’s amazing to hear that Alva Primary are making the trip for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, it’ll give me that bit extra motivation knowing they’ve come along to support us.”Belinda Greer, Head of Education at Clackmannanshire Council, said: We have been committed to rugby development for over a decade and are incredibly proud that elite players like Adam, who benefited from the Clackmannanshire rugby programme, have gone on to play for their country. “All Clackmannanshire’s primary school pupils get rugby as part of their PE lessons in P5 and in P7 and Alva Academy is the first secondary school in Clackmannanshire to host a School of Rugby. I’d like to thank Adam for visiting his former primary and secondary schools today.
