Scotland A will take on the USA at Henley in this year’s Barclays Churchill Cup and, just five days later, play England Saxons at Twickenham. Scotland A beat their English counterparts in last year’s tournament in Toronto to make it to the final against New Zealand Maori. This season the tournament is being held in England for the first time and will be staged at five different venues during the summer with Pool matches being hosted from Sale to Exeter and Finals Day being staged at Twickenham. The decision to move the tournament to England for this year only was taken due to the busy player schedules leading up the Rugby World Cup but the tournament will return to North America in the summers of 2008 and 2009. The timing of the tournament could be useful for one prominent Scotland player, Jason White, as he may play for Scotland A as part of his injury rehabilitation, to gain game time in preparation for the Rugby World Cup in September. The tournament opens on Friday 18th May at Sale Sharks’ home ground, Edgeley Park, in Stockport as England Saxons (England A) take on the US Eagles. England then have a ten day recuperation period before facing Scotland A in their second pool game at Twickenham on Monday 28 May. Scotland A’s first match is against US Eagles five days into the tournament at Henley RFC on Wednesday 23 May. The Scots then face the Saxons the following Bank Holiday Monday at Twickenham. All six teams play on Finals Day at Twickenham on Saturday 2nd June.
