Scotland Advance To Seventh In Irb Rankings
29 Aug 2011
Scotland head coach Andy Robinson today welcomed Scotland’s advance to seventh in the IRB world rankings – but stressed that his focus was on winning Rugby World Cup pool matches. Speaking at the end of the Scots’ first day at their training camp on Australia’s Gold Coast Robinson noted that stringing together winning performances was key to Scotland’s rise in the standings. Robinson said: What the rankings prove is that if you win games, you will move up the rankings. For us, getting that consistency of winning three games on the bounce (the victories against Italy in the final game of the 2011 RBS 6NC and then in the EMC Tests against Ireland and Italy) means that you have the ability to move up the rankings. I don’t think they (the rankings) will have too much impact on what happens in the Rugby World Cup where we’ll have four very tough games in our pool stages and the key focus for us is on winning those games. Listen to the full interview with Andy Robinson. The rankings were revealed by the IRB this morning and showed that Scotland had leap-frogged Ireland for seventh place after Ireland’s defeat against England in Dublin at the weekend.
