Pupils at North Queensferry Primary School turned out for coaching session with Scotland star Allan Jacobsen today (19 February). As part of a programme organised by Dunfermline development officer Phil Smith and SVQ community coach, James Bird, Primary 7 pupils will take part in a six-week rugby programme which kicked off with the visit of the Scotland prop.The visit is the latest in a series of community focused events that will run right up to the Scotland v Italy RBS 6 Nations match at Murrayfield Stadium (28 February, kick-off 3pm).Pupils at North Queensferry Primary School turned out for coaching session with Scotland star Allan Jacobsen today (19 February).As part of a programme organised by Dunfermline development officer Phil Smith and SVQ community coach, James Bird, Primary 7 pupils will take part in a six-week rugby programme which kicked off with the visit of the Scotland prop.The visit is the latest in a series of community focused events that will run right up to the Scotland v Italy RBS 6 Nations match at Murrayfield Stadium (28 February, kick-off 3pm)The introductory block of rugby led by Bird will involve running drills, rugby rounders and kicking practice and will focus on having fun with rugby while building towards the more traditional contact and non-contact aspects of training to play the game of rugby.The inaugural session came to a deafening crescendo when Jacobsen joined as guest coach before answering a barrage of questions from the eager young players, signing autographs and having his picture taken with the youngsters.Jacobsen said: “I really enjoy coaching and educating people about rugby, especially when they’re as enthusiastic and keen to learn as all the pupils have been today. “Scottish Rugby development staff have been doing some great work across the country so hopefully these kids will join the growing number of youngsters taking up rugby and keep the game growing.”Dunfermline development officer, Phil Smith, said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Allan. He was well grilled in the Q and A session which gave the youngsters a good insight into life as an international.”There’s great potential to expand youth rugby in Fife and more and more kids are taking in after school rugby clubs so it’s up to us to build on the club to school links and get more players joining local clubs.”In their third RBS 6 Nations fixture, Scotland host Italy at Murrayfield on Saturday 28 February (kick-off 3pm).
